YARD SALE yeilds much needed funds for M.A.R.S.

Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary wants to thank all who participated in making this sale a success. Those of you who helped are the backbone of any rescue organization. For those of you who came out and spent some money, we hope you enjoyed the sale.

Funding for exotic bird rescue is virtually non existent, so these sales are needed to keep funds available for feeding, operation, and numerous other necessities and expenses associated with a rescue.

Please continue to support our cause. Donate online, attend our future sales, become a member, or become a volunteer. Thank-you to all.

Oh, and as all our batteries need recharging just as the cameras does, pictures will be posted on our Facebook page, Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. later today. Please make sure to take a look.

Yes, a true Pirate ship it is!!!!!!!!! The creation of Captain Daniel Red. Her name is Calyspo, and she is an amazing vessel to be sure.

Calyspo would be a great setting for a fundraiser for M.A.R.S. parrots. Anyone want to help plan one of these events????????? Contact marsparrots@aol.com and lets talk.

“RIO” See the movie, share your thoughts with M.A.R.S.

Corene and Rico

Saturday was an interesting and amazing day for M.A.R.S. and a few of our feathered members.

We were invited to attend the RIO premiere in downtown Orlando with our friend Corene Fry. Our job was to meet and greet the movie goers, and introduce then to some amazing exotic birds from our rescue, Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

Volunteer Jane Wyman joined in the outing to Orlando, along with Cuddles, the Moluccan Cockatoo, Rico, the Greenwing Macaw and our boarder Stella, the Hyacinth Macaw.

As I always say pictures are worth a thousand words, so view all on our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. page on Facebook.

Please remember M.A.R.S.  needs your continued support to survive. Please consider a donation to our cause. FOOD COSTS ARE RISING!!!!!!!!

Thank-you for following our adventures, please continue to do so.

Sunday morning Surprise

Coreen Fry and Yamile

Sunday is usually a quiet, calm, very low key kind of day here at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S..

This Sunday however, we were treated to a visit from our friend Coreen Fry and her photographer Yamile.

Coreen is assembling footage of exotic birds to be used in a CD she is producing that will be informative as well as entertaining. Look for the CD  to be available for sale here on our site www.marsparrots.org  in the near future.

In filming this morning we had fun with our frequent flyer’s Keiffer, an Umbrella cockatoo and of course our adorable Miss Lilly a Lesser Sulfer Crested cockatoo. They both preformed admirably for the video cam.  They appeared to completely enjoy the whole process which took a little over an hour.

Thank-you to the ladies for a rather noisey but very enjoyable experience here at M.A.R.S. on this picture perfect Sunday Morning. Did I mention the mimosas?

Now it’s back to quiet once again here at our exotic bird rescueand of course bananna pancakes as a reward to all the birds for their cooperation in the making of this video.

Remember, donations are necessary to continue our work here at the sanctuary. Please consider donating to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Thank-you

Up date to “This is why there are rescues”

Life, as always, turns out to be a continuing learning experience. That is exactly what this weekend at the Miami bird auction taught us here at M.A.R.S..

Never assume you know everything, never assume that because you have seen the worst, there are not decent, humane places where birds are bred for the trade.

Without going into all the details, I will simply say we are glad we went. M.A.R.S., with the help of many of our online followers from Facebook (Florida parrot rescue MARS), as well as www.marsparrots.org, were able to rescue the birds we judged to be the most in need. In need of a change, in need of retirement, or simply by a few mistakes in the bidding venue. No regrets there either. We will post pictures of our new arrivals and update all on their progress.

Thank-you for all your imput, comments and support. Please remember, it is all about the birds. There are places that get it. They are clean and organized and have a high standard of care, and other places that deserve to be shut down be it rescue, or breeding facility.

Please remember to donate if you can as now we are even more in need of the essentials that it takes to keep Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary operating.

I forgot the most important point. We rescued 12 exotic birds. Their first Sunday here at M.A.R.S. started out with french toast, scrambeled eggs, and of course Jazz. All is quiet once again, at least till tomorrow.

M.A.R.S.Parrots and McKee Botanical Gardens, a great pairing

M.A.R.S. and McKee, now there is a recipe for success. M.A.R.S. was invited to do two sessions of summer camp at McKee with the kids of Treasure Coast Elementery School. An amazing place by itself, http://www.mckeegarden.org/ McKee Botanical Gardens in Vero Beach is wonderful to visit. Now add in some great kids and some amazing parrots and well you get the picture. Lorry and Chris Burgr, and two of their fids were the stars of the show. We also brought along Cuddles, Tiki and Stella for the kids to interact with and enjoy. We hope to be invited back. We hope to visit again very soon.
