It’s that time again, we need bird food money. Volunteers who can work the sale, that includes Thursday night set up, Friday sale day or Saturday sale day and or the break down, please e-mail marsparrots@aol.com and let us know. Thank-you to all for such a successful job raising funds. We are so grateful to Gemini Elementary. Their project titled , “Pocket change for Polly” was the catchy phrase used by the student council to raise funds for the parrots of M.A.R.S. We so appreciate the community support you have given to all our feathered members. To all who participated, have a wonderful Summer vacation.

We are raising funds, it’s always a necessity, and what better way than our now famous Yard Sales. Set up like a french market with tablecloth covered tables containing bargains galore. Everyone is sure to find a treasure amidst all of the loot. Here are a few items offered for sale.
Remember the date Saturday February 27th from 8:00 AM till 3:00 PM. If you don’t know where we’re located, you’ll find all the info on our location page.

What a successful adoption day

We had a really great Animal Adoption day here in Melbourne. Thanks to Aloha Pet & Bird Hospital, South Brevard Animal Care and Animal Guardians. The event scored high in attendence, Dennis and Mary Peer of Animal Guardians were amazing in bringing Channel 13 to the event.
Press coverage is essential. The numbers prove once again that people will come out and support a good cause. Adopting a shelter pet.
New homes were found for 11 cats and 3 dogs. No birds, but lots of inquiries. Great fun was had by all who attended.
Refreshments were an amazing array of sweets and treats including pizza and sparkling cider. Cudos to Linda Pepin of Aloha for those.
As mentioned, a pirate or two came, along with M.A.R.S. favorite new adoptive parents Chris and Lorry Burger who were an amazing addition to the event. They are now fostering our feathered member Riley, she is a very lucky bird indeed. Future events are planned and we all hope they are equally as successful.

Yard Sale For M.A.R.S. Parrot Rescue on July 18

Please join in fun and come to our yard sale this upcoming Saturday, July 18 (location info here)! All proceeds go directly to our parrots rescue sanctuary.

M.A.R.S. Parrot Rescue Welcomes Pineapple Cove Academy

The Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary was asked to host a series of three field trips from Pineapple Cove Academy. We decided to roll it into two groups consisting of 20 for the first visit followed by the second group of 40 children.
The purpose of this visit was to of course have fun, but also to teach the children about caring for different parrots that come to our rescue, what can make them happy, and how their behaviors can be so very different within the same species.
It was a very hands on experience for the groups, as each one was given the opportunity to hold and pet the parrots. For added measure we also introduced Gracie our resident iguana, which the children also held and pet. We at M.A.R.S. send out a big thank-you to Pineapple Cove, the staff who accompanied the groups, and to the children who were wonderful visitors.

This time around our sale takes on an inside outside mix of good things that are available for purchase. We are creating a place for all our donated items. A permanent shop located in our building, to allow us to raise funds that are so desperately needed on a continuing basis. So please come out and support the parrots of M.A.R.S. and have fun with us. Up coming events “Founders Day” in Melbourne Beach

Once again the town of Melbourne Beach celebrates it’s history. The event will be held on Saturday May 2, 2009. This marks 126 years since the town was established. The fun will begin early and last well into the evening. Please check out the website of the town of Melbourne Beach for more information on all activities.
The Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary will be joining in the celebration with a set-up at Ryckman Park. We will be promoting our membership drive, displaying art work by our volunteers, and of course some of our feathered members of M.A.R.S. will be in attendance. Please join us in support for M.A.R.S. and enjoy the event.
