French toast Friday.

On Friday, prior to making the C&J feed store run on Saturday,( a thank-you to all who made that happen), we had to improvise a bit in feeding all the exotic birds who reside here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. A lot of french bread had been left at our door, so what’s more bird approved then french toast.

A couple dozen eggs, vanilla, milk and of course cinnamon completes the mix, and voila, happy avians here at M.A.R.S..

Nothing says happy like a picture unfortunately the camera was not in my hand as a full plate of french toast was. However I did manage to snap Dakota a Harlequin Macaw enjoying hers. The Amazons andCockatoos were equally appreciative of the delicious treat. I tried it too, not bad!!!!!!!!

Remember when you adopt a bird from M.A.R.S. you better be good at making French toast.

Once again we dodged the bullet, but cleanup goes on an on.

Every time we go through these end of summer storms we are amazed by the power of the wind and rains. We are equally grateful and amazed that we escaped the full force of a hurricane once again.  

Monday as you can imagine was nothing short of a miracle, as all who volunteer here at M.A.R.S. were willing to lend lots of hands to the job of cleaning up.

All the aviary birds on Saturday and Sunday, though frequently getting wet, were making happy sounds. Food and boxes changed out at regular intervals to give them the idea that all was right in their world here at the parrot rescue. If they see calm in their caretakers, they remain calm. Of course some extra special treats never hurt. Bribery is a good thing.

So with that said, we will all get back to the daily running of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. The care of the exotic birds who reside here will always be our highest priority.

We once again invite you to visit our Florida parrot rescue on any of our open days.  Come and interact with the Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons and other species of our feathered friends. If you are considering adoption, this is by far the best hands on experience anywhere.

 We sincerely hope you will all continue to support our cause with a donation, or consider becoming a M.A.R.S. member.  As always, we need all the help we can get.

Sometimes when you least expect it, the unexpected happens

at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Saturday was such a day.

Everything seemed a little bit to quiet, and you can see why, there was a lot of preening going on.
New arrival Baily, a Lesser Sulfer Crested Cockatoo, was soon to have a new friend Doc, an Umbrella Cockatoo, who not only allowed the preening but introduced Baily to his favorite mulberry tree. They had a fun day together here at M.A.R.S.
Big Bird and Stubbs, well there is no rhyme or reason for that pairing.  A Yellow Naped Amazon, and an Umbrella Cockatoo, who knew what great buddies they would become.

Then there was Oz, a Moluccan Cockatoo, and the Triton Cockatoo we named Bridy.
Last, but not least Bitsy and Ben, two Ducorps Cockatoos. They are just plain odd all the way around.

What a storm we had!!!!!!!

  Thursday March 31st, WOW!!!!!!!!, what a storm.  Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary spent 6 1/2 hours without electric. Winds so strong that trees came crashing down. One just missing the aviaries.

 So as you can imagine, today has to start out on a good note. The work of clean up here at our rescue will be a long hard one. The Macaws, Cockatoos and Amazons in the aviary will have lots of entertainment from the humans today.

 Chain saw definately need. Anyone have one to loan????????

 Oh, did I mention a hearty breakfast for all the feathered members of M.A.R.S., and actually some left over for me.

Saturday turned out to be a picture perfect day for visiting M.A.R.S.

We were pleased to have ample help from our volunteers Jane, Linden and Frank. Their amazing team work helped facilitate a quick feed and clean up. This allowed all of us quality time  to spend with our visitors, and provided some  great one on one  time with the cockatoos, macaws, amazons and other avian members who reside here in our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.

Saturday pics for Sunday viewing, enjoy

Every Saturday we have an open invitation to everyone to visit . To meet and greet the avians here for adoption, to cuddle to play to simply enjoy the atmosphere here at our Florida parrot rescue M.A.R.S..

Saturday was a great day for doing just that here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

The Cockatoos, Amazons and Macaws all had a very play filled day, until the weather got a little cold for some of the smaller residents. Especially Bitsy and her friend Ben two of the rescue birds from Miami.

Jack Sparrow takes a box.

Our resident iguana Jack Sparrow, takes a cue from our feathered members of M.A.R.S..

Not to be outdone by the Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons and assorted other species of parrots who reside at our parrot rescue. He chose a box of his very own.

Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary goes through a ton of boxes on a regular basis, but add in the cold weather and well you can imagine.

So off to the liquor store I go for all their discarded boxes. They are the best I have found so far. And yes we recycle as much as we can.

Stormy Weather

The umbrellas are down, stormy weather has hit our Melbourne Beach town. The macaws, cockatoos and amazons of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary are all hunkered down, hoping good weather will come our way at some time today.

So to all that I say strawberry pancakes need to be made right away.

To anyone planning a visit to M.A.R.S. today, be sure to bring an umbrella. Oh, and perhaps a rain coat too.

Saturday is “Party Day” here at M.A.R.S.

Saturday turned out to be the kind of day that both people and parrots pray for. The perfect day to visit with all the M.A.R.S. avians. Watch them get baths, and simply play, play, play. All of us agreed that the cockatoos stole the show. Although an amazon or two tried really hard.

A frosty day in a Florida town, Melbourne Beach,what to do??????

Needless to say the residents of M.A.R.S. woke up to a cold morning. So to put a smile on their faces, warm, buttered zoo pasta from World Market.

All the parrots had boxes with blankets inside of them to hide from the cold, but the pasta really made them warm on the inside.

The Macaws and Cockatoos along with two Yellow Nape amazons in the outside aviary are now wondering what their next treat will be here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, any suggestions???????
