Hours of Operation information.

Here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary (M.A.R.S.), our visitor area is located entirely outside. Because of this unique venue, you can experience the exotic birds in a more natural setting. They play in trees, they free fly, and they can interact with each visitor to the rescue, one on one. We invite you to visit and visit often. Please note that due to the volume of visitors, we are allowing only so many at one time. There are numerous local resturants to enjoy if a wait is necessary. There is also a fishing pier, local shops, beaches and a beautiful park, all within walking distance of the Sanctuary.

Normal days of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours are 11:00 to 4:30. Days are subject to change do to weather conditions and volunteer availability. Special events also require changes in this schedule.

Saturday is always our official adoption day and will remain our highest priority. If another time is required due to work schedule or other reasons, contact us. Special times can be arranged.

Please e-mail marsparrots@aol.com, or contact us through www.marsparrots.org/contact. Updates are also posted on Florida Parrot Rescue MARS our official Facebook page, or Facebook/marsparrots.

Peaches, Moluccan with a heart of gold.

Peaches is a wild caught Moluccan. He has resided here at M.A.R.S. for a number of years. He had one previous owner. We recenly placed Peaches on the adoption list and hope to find him a loving forever home. He would love to have fresh cooked home food and lots of treats. He loves affection and lots of out of cage time. If you can find a place in your life for this Moluccan with a heart of gold than come to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary to meet him. Please e-mail marsparrots@aol.com or use the contact form on www.marsparrots.org.

Stormy Weather

The umbrellas are down, stormy weather has hit our Melbourne Beach town. The macaws, cockatoos and amazons of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary are all hunkered down, hoping good weather will come our way at some time today.

So to all that I say strawberry pancakes need to be made right away.

To anyone planning a visit to M.A.R.S. today, be sure to bring an umbrella. Oh, and perhaps a rain coat too.

Saturdays are officially our adoption days

The board members and volunteers of  M.A.R.S.  finally realize that potential adopters must have their own day to visit Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Saturday is now officially that day.

M.A.R.S.  almost every day of the week is a working aviary. It is all about the care, feeding and well being of our feathered members. Their needs are above and beyond our highest priority.

Realizing the need to facilitate the adoptions of  many of  the M.A.R.S. parrots, and give the individual attention needed to each prospective adopter, which is not the case on a weekday, Saturday is now adoption day.

All who visit here on a Saturday know that the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The hard work has been completed, the avian members generally on good behavior, and quality time is available  for all who seek to adopt or simply visit our facility

With that said, our new days for visiting M.A.R.S. are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Remember, only on Saturdays will we be doing adoptions.

If for any reason Saturdays are not possible for prospective adopters than e-mail marsparrots@aol.com or contact us through this site via our contact form. Other arrangements can be discussed.

Thumper, one stubborn male Moluccan

Wednesday started out normally here at M.A.R.S. Florida parrot rescue. The usual feed and clean at the sanctuary. Then, while our volunteer was cleaning the aviaries, Thumper saw his chance to escape and went for it.

Thumper has full flight. He immediately began flying from tree to roof and back. Once in a while he would land just out of my reach on the deck area. He basically was saying not till I am ready will you get me.

Throughout the day this behavior continued and well into the evening. I realized that he most likely wanted to spend the night in the tree. So I went upstairs to bed. Luckily around 10:00 I remembered I hadn’t turned off the front lights. So as I went to do so, there on the deck sat Thumper asking to go to the aviaries for his bedtime.

The bottom line, never try to second guess a male Moluccan, at least not this on named Thumper.

Thumper is available for adoption here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, M.A.R.S. for the short version.

For Jane and Max

Max our resident Pionus lost his top beak a few months back.

With loving care and balanced nutrients, Volunteer Extroidinaire Jane has given Max a chance for survival that otherwise would not have been possible. All her amazing efforts have given Max an extended life.

Now we need to give Jane back her life and provide a prosthetic beak for Max.
Any imput on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

The pictures attached are sad to view, but Max has a huge life force and desire to survive which, thanks to Jane, he has up to now. Please send any links if you know a source, and please donate to help provide the funds for Max to get a new beak.

All of us at M.A.R.S. WILL BE FOREVER GREATFULL. Max most of all.

Pirates and Parrots and M.A.R.S.

M.A.R.S. PARROT RESCUE, recently had a very interesting visitor.

His intentions at first we did not dare to question. His appearence was oh so fearsome, although a kind and gentle look in his eyes told us not to be afraid. Low and behold he said he was here to inquire about adopting a parrot, as his recently was lost in a storm named Bill, somewhere off the Bermuda coast.

Alas, his ship was damaged as well, so he informed us he had ample time to find just the right parrot before setting sail once again.
Who will he choose? This could be the first bird rescue paid for with gold coins or jewels!!! Arrrrrgggghhhh!!!!
