In my own little corner in my own little chair.

First, let me say Happy New Year to all our supporters and friends. We will be entering into our fifith year in February and want to thank all who help us to continue the work at our exotic bird sanctuary, M.A.R.S..

As you can see by the pic on the left, the chair is always waiting for me to sit and the laptop to begin writing about something here at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S..(excuse me for a minute birds are yelling ).

Well back to writing. Five A.M. is usually the best time to try as all are quiet and calm and not demanding anything yet. It is cold out and they are still hunkered down in their boxes with the blankets inside them. Smart creatures the Macaws, Cockatoos, and Amazons are and so appreciative of the warmth till the sun comes up an provides heat for the rest of the day.

I usually talk about warm and good things we make in the kitchen here at M.A.R.S. and today especially due to the cold spell, we are having bananna walnut pancakes. Cheep to make and delicious for all the birds.(They love them almost as much as the french toast.)

The work at the parrot sanctuary is on going, and daily. There is always a job or a project that needs doing.(Another blog right ?) But to put it in basic terms, writing a blog, which is a good way to ask for donations and help to keep the rescue operating strong and efficiently, is one of the most difficult things to provide time for.

So please bare with this Director as she is now searching for a co- writer and computer wizzard to get some stories flowing, so all of you can be a part what goes on here at  Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. As always I ask that you continue to support our cause wih your donations, and sponsorships of our non or less adoptable birds,(another blog for another time).

Thank-you for reading and don’t forget to check out our facebook page( Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.) and of course please hit the lifetime like button!!! New pics of new birds for adoption to be posted soon.

A very happy ending indeed.

Sunday the 11th of December while working here at M.A.R.S., a knock brought me to the front door. A bird was found at the beach crossover in Indialantic and they were wondering if we could take it in. Since I assumed it was a sea bird I explained that we only do exotics, but there is a place that does near by. To my amazement the comment was made that this bird has a red tail.

Yes you guessed it an African Grey parrot, and a friendly one.

So they brought him here to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Now it just so happens that I was boarding my friend Lindas’  Blue and gold Macaw, and she was due to pick her up at any time. Linda works closly with South Animal Care, and is an Aloha Animal Hospital associate. The wheels are as you see already in motion.

Our volunteer Shelly had mentioned, that are two really good sites for lost animals, Brevard Lost Animals, and Space coast lost animals. I pulled up the sites and looked at the posted pictures. Now here is where it gets interesting. The bird in the posting pictures did not look like the bird we had, and was using the opposite foot to eat all the treats.

To finish up this story Linda made the contacts, said we might have the lost bird here and Shelly followed suit with her contacts. The next day the owner who resides in Palm Bay came to M.A.R.S.and was happily reunited with her bird Matu.

If there is knowledge to be learned from this story one might think it’s to clip all birds wings. But, as most visitors to M.A.R.S. know we allow free flight  to certain birds.  What we learned, is there are great websites to use in Brevard Co. for lost pets, with an amazing network of people.

Thank-you to all who helped unite Matu with his owner Debbie.

Last, my next blog has to be about this. Is your bird left footed when taking treats, stepping up, or preforming other tasks or right footed? Or possibly ambidextrous?

Donations needed.

M.A.R.S. is simply putting it out there to all who follow our organization, we are in need of donations.  Our flock of adoptable and permanent avian residents is continuing to grow. The feed and supplies needed, and the day to day operation of  our rescue is going up and up. Please donate if you can via Paypal, Network for good, Guidestar, and right here on our website www.marsparrots.org/donations. Thank-you to all who continue to support our cause.

Visit us when in the area. Plan on spending some time with the avians of  M.A.R.S.. Adopt a bird ( read our no-fault adoption policy) or simply sponsor one in need of special care.

See for yourself, come experience Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Remember you can follow us, and join in on our Facebook page Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.

We give our heartfelt thanks to all who contribute to our parrot rescue. Help us to continue to move forward and stay strong.

Once again we dodged the bullet, but cleanup goes on an on.

Tree debris everwwhereCages got washed downNeeded rearranged anyway

Every time we go through these end of summer storms we are amazed by the power of the wind and rains. We are equally grateful and amazed that we escaped the full force of a hurricane once again.

Monday as you can imagine was nothing short of a miracle, as all who volunteer here at M.A.R.S. were willing to lend lots of hands to the job of cleaning up.

All the aviary birds on Saturday and Sunday, though frequently getting wet, were making happy sounds. Food and boxes changed out at regular intervals to give them the idea that all was right in their world here at the parrot rescue. If they see calm in their caretakers, they remain calm. Of course some extra special treats never hurt. Bribery is a good thing.

So with that said, we will all get back to the daily running of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. The care of the exotic birds who reside here will always be our highest priority.

We once again invite you to visit our Florida parrot rescue on any of our open days.  Come and interact with the Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons and other species of our feathered friends. If you are considering adoption, this is by far the best hands on experience anywhere.

We sincerely hope you will all continue to support our cause with a donation, or consider becoming a M.A.R.S. member.  As always, we need all the help we can get.

Marsparrots.org needs your help in raising food funds.

Everyone who visits our web site or visits us in person at our Florida parrot rescue, knows our avians here at M.A.R.S. need a lot of seed and feed to sustain them. It is a constant struggle to make this happen.

Please if you can donate, via paypal, network for good, or right here through our donation page. Your dollars help support many amazing exotic birds that are here for adoption and some that will because of very special needs remain a part of M.A.R.S..

Hours of Operation information.

Here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary (M.A.R.S.), our visitor area is located entirely outside. Because of this unique venue, you can experience the exotic birds in a more natural setting. They play in trees, they free fly, and they can interact with each visitor to the rescue, one on one. We invite you to visit and visit often. Please note that due to the volume of visitors, we are allowing only so many at one time. There are numerous local resturants to enjoy if a wait is necessary. There is also a fishing pier, local shops, beaches and a beautiful park, all within walking distance of the Sanctuary.

Normal days of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours are 11:00 to 4:30. Days are subject to change do to weather conditions and volunteer availability. Special events also require changes in this schedule.

Saturday is always our official adoption day and will remain our highest priority. If another time is required due to work schedule or other reasons, contact us. Special times can be arranged.

Please e-mail marsparrots@aol.com, or contact us through www.marsparrots.org/contact. Updates are also posted on Florida Parrot Rescue MARS our official Facebook page, or Facebook/marsparrots.

Kiwi, the eye in the bird carrier

Does this seem a strange title for a post? Well not for those who follow us on Facebook, Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.. We posted a picture and asked what species of exotic bird could the eye peering from the carrier belong to.

For your viewing, Kiwi in her entire form. She is a Camelot Macaw. Please share if you know what the mother and father are.

We hope  you will watch Kiwi’s progress with us here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

We will keep you updated on her feathering progress. Please consider a donation to our cause. We appreciate all your continued support.

Sunday morning coffee with some Saturday pics to view.

Saturday turned out to be a picture perfect day for visiting M.A.R.S.

We were pleased to have ample help from our volunteers Jane, Linden and Frank. Their amazing team work helped facilitate a quick feed and clean up. This allowed all of us quality time  to spend with our visitors, and provided some  great one on one  time with the cockatoos, macaws, amazons and other avian members who reside here in our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.

So have another cup of coffee and view our Saturday the 12th photo album on our Facebook page.

Just a quick note, our new gallery of birds for adoption will be available this week. We will be updating our website. Also visit Petfinder and AdoptAPet.com.

Saturdays are officially our adoption days

The board members and volunteers of  M.A.R.S.  finally realize that potential adopters must have their own day to visit Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Saturday is now officially that day.

M.A.R.S.  almost every day of the week is a working aviary. It is all about the care, feeding and well being of our feathered members. Their needs are above and beyond our highest priority.

Realizing the need to facilitate the adoptions of  many of  the M.A.R.S. parrots, and give the individual attention needed to each prospective adopter, which is not the case on a weekday, Saturday is now adoption day.

All who visit here on a Saturday know that the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The hard work has been completed, the avian members generally on good behavior, and quality time is available  for all who seek to adopt or simply visit our facility

With that said, our new days for visiting M.A.R.S. are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Remember, only on Saturdays will we be doing adoptions.

If for any reason Saturdays are not possible for prospective adopters than e-mail marsparrots@aol.com or contact us through this site via our contact form. Other arrangements can be discussed.

This is why there are rescues!!!!!!!!!!

An auction is happening this weekend in Miami. The entire stock of a major breeding facility is on the block. I have been to breeding farms. I know the conditions.

Our group here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary M.A.R.S., is putting out a plea to raise funds for this most worthy cause. Please assist us in rescuing some of these exotic birds

We can make a difference in the lives of a few of these avians. We as a rescue must do this. Make your donation via Pay pal right here on our site and make a note that it is for the Miami birds. We are also on Facebook, if you prefer to donate through Florida Parrot Rescue MARS

Our sincerest thank-you to all who help in making this rescue possible.
