New arrival to M.A.R.S., and he is grand.

Our newest arrival, Winston, a Grand Eclectus, was relinquished to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary on Saturday.

Winston was immediately given a beak trim, as the length was about to the bottom of where his head feathers are. A bath soon followed to access the feather issues.

Turns out he enjoyed the entire process, and immediately went to everyone as if to say thank-you.

Winston will be available for adoption here at M.A.R.S. as soon as he completes his rehabilitation period. Stay tuned for updates.

M.A.R.S. relies on your donations to continue the work we do here. Please consider a donation to our cause.

Mirror mirror on the wall……….

Bitsy tales a close look

Bitsy a Ducorps Cockatoo really got an eye full of herself in the mirror. She stared and stared and made those funny little sounds that only a Ducorps seems to make, as if asking, “Is that what I really look like?”
Well, Miss Bitsy, we here at M.A.R.S., our Florida parrot rescue, are about to try some brand new   Harrisons Heal products to see if we can help improve your image.
We will be using two products, Soother a topical spray, along with Bird Builder a dietary supplement.
With the use of these products along with fresh air and sunshine, and some other additions to Bitsys’ daily routine we will hope to see marked improvement in what would other wise seem a lost cause.
Follow Bitsys’ progress with us, sign up for our feed on www.marsparrots.org , and follow us on Facebook, Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S..
Please if you can consider a donation to our cause to help purchase the products needed to continue the rehabilitation process of birds like our Bitsy.

Sunday morning Surprise

Coreen Fry and Yamile

Sunday is usually a quiet, calm, very low key kind of day here at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S..

This Sunday however, we were treated to a visit from our friend Coreen Fry and her photographer Yamile.

Coreen is assembling footage of exotic birds to be used in a CD she is producing that will be informative as well as entertaining. Look for the CD  to be available for sale here on our site www.marsparrots.org  in the near future.

In filming this morning we had fun with our frequent flyer’s Keiffer, an Umbrella cockatoo and of course our adorable Miss Lilly a Lesser Sulfer Crested cockatoo. They both preformed admirably for the video cam.  They appeared to completely enjoy the whole process which took a little over an hour.

Thank-you to the ladies for a rather noisey but very enjoyable experience here at M.A.R.S. on this picture perfect Sunday Morning. Did I mention the mimosas?

Now it’s back to quiet once again here at our exotic bird rescueand of course bananna pancakes as a reward to all the birds for their cooperation in the making of this video.

Remember, donations are necessary to continue our work here at the sanctuary. Please consider donating to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Thank-you

With a voice as big as the sea, and yes that would be Stella

We here at M.A.R.S. had the joy of boarding a truly amazing bird this year.

To experience life with a larger than life bird, one must understand that the vocals of that bird might actually match the size of that bird.

Such was the case with Stella, a big, beautiful, vibrant blue Hyacinth Macaw with a personality to fall in love with and a voice as big as the sea.

So when I say, “Do you hear what I hear”, that would be Stella.

Wishing all a very vibrant and blue (that would be in color only) Holiday Season from all here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

Sunday morning, a must share photo

A Goffin, awaiting a name, a Moluccan awaiting a name, and our resident guardian, Zues. All available for adoption here at M.A.R.S..

Wednesday at M.A.R.S. almost as good as Saturdays. Pictures tell all

Every week we all look forward to Saturdays. M.A.R.S. has very special people to help out, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

This week Wednesday came close. It’s all because the Miami birds finally wanted to meet the other members of our parrot rescue. The truly amazing part, they figured it out on their own.

In the first and second picture our unnamed Triton cockatoo decided to mingle with Lilly. Lilly, always the alpha girl decided to give her a break from dive bombing her. She chose to dive bomb her old favorite Emily above her in the tree.

The third picture shows Zues who we refer to as the guardian. All new birds seek him out for comfort. Our Goffin from Miami shows us just how true this is once again.IMG 2584

13 is not an unlucky number.

From the Miami auction we bid on and brought home 12 exotic birds. Number thirteen, was a bonus bird, as the owners asked if we would be interested in giving him a new home at M.A.R.S. parrot rescue.

We have huge hearts here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary and fortunately an amazing association with Aloha Animal and bird Hospital in Eau Gallie. Our bonus bird a Buffon Macaw was in need of such specialized care.

He weighed in at 2.5 lbs, where most Macaws average 4.5 up. He is beautiful, and sweet, and we are all hoping for the best outcome possible.

Stay with us by signing up for our RSS feed from our web site www.marsparrots.org and we will keep you posted on the progress of our new arrival.

The Eyes tell all.

Friday, while taking some pictures of the avian residents of M.A.R.S., the sun suddenly shined just right on two of our cockatoos. Our two girls, Angel and Lilly, were out and about enjoying the afternoon here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Angel is an umbrella cockatoo. Lilly a IMG 2421

lesser sulfer crested cockatoo . Hopefully, if you look closely at the pictures, the eyes tell all. Their hues are as beautiful as the amber, red and gold shades of fall.

Bottom line, if you’re ever in doubt if you have a male or female cockatoo, look into their eyes. Nine out of ten times you’ll know for sure.Of course you can always wait a few years. Eventually you will know, their actions will show you.

Sunday morning at M.A.R.S.

Ah!!!!!!, Sunday morning at M.A.R.S. Jazz music, special vanilla bean coffee, white bathrobe, hot spa, pancakes on the grill. Well those were my intensions. However, we had the storm of storms roll in yesterday afternoon. The outside aviaries were trashed, the birds miserable. So right to work. Fresh water and food, dry boxes to play in, a general all around clean up. The results, happy quiet birds, jazz music and all the rest will follow. Wishing you all a great Sunday from the entire crew here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.
