Upon many occasions our exotic bird rescue brings in simply amazing birds that are relinquished to M.A.R.S. for future adoptions. Such is the case with our Umbrella Cockatoo pictured here. His name is Marchello.

  We had high hopes for him to become a favorite addition to a loving family. He has all the amazing qualities a really good Cockatoo should have.  He however has one giant flaw, he does not like children or any version of them including teenagers. So with that said we here at M.A.R.S. are looking for adults only to give this bird the home he so deserves.

  Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary as you all know by now is a no-fault rescue. This policy has allowed our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. to learn through Marchellas’ prior adoptions that this amazing avian will do well and be a loving addition to an adults only household.

We are very happy to report that Stewie and Angel Eyes who replaced Marchella  in those families with children, are doing very well indeed.

Here at our exotic bird rescue known simply as M.A.R.S., we make it our highest priority to make this decision to adopt a very successful and wonderful experience for all.  To those of you who understand that adoption is the only way to go, we thank you all !!!!!!!!!!!!

Here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary (M.A.R.S.), our visitor area is located entirely outside. Because of this unique venue, you can experience the exotic birds in a more natural setting. They play in trees, they free fly, and they can interact with each visitor to the rescue, one on one. We invite you to visit and visit often. Please note that due to the volume of visitors, we are allowing only so many at one time. There are numerous local resturants to enjoy if a wait is necessary. There is also a fishing pier, local shops, beaches and a beautiful park, all within walking distance of the Sanctuary.

Normal days of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours are 11:00 to 4:30. Days are subject to change do to weather conditions and volunteer availability. Special events also require changes in this schedule.

Saturday is always our official adoption day and will remain our highest priority. If another time is required due to work schedule or other reasons, contact us. Special times can be arranged.

Peaches is a wild caught Moluccan. He has resided here at M.A.R.S. for a number of years. He had one previous owner. We recenly placed Peaches on the adoption list and hope to find him a loving forever home. He would love to have fresh cooked home food and lots of treats. He loves affection and lots of out of cage time. If you can find a place in your life for this Moluccan with a heart of gold than come to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary to meet him. Corene and Rico

Saturday was an interesting and amazing day for M.A.R.S. and a few of our feathered members.

We were invited to attend the RIO premiere in downtown Orlando with our friend Corene Fry. Our job was to meet and greet the movie goers, and introduce then to some amazing exotic birds from our rescue, Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

Volunteer Jane Wyman joined in the outing to Orlando, along with Cuddles, the Moluccan Cockatoo, Rico, the Greenwing Macaw and our boarder Stella, the Hyacinth Macaw.

  Thursday March 31st, WOW!!!!!!!!, what a storm.  Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary spent 6 1/2 hours without electric. Winds so strong that trees came crashing down. One just missing the aviaries.

 So as you can imagine, today has to start out on a good note. The work of clean up here at our rescue will be a long hard one. The Macaws, Cockatoos and Amazons in the aviary will have lots of entertainment from the humans today.

 Chain saw definately need. Anyone have one to loan????????

 Oh, did I mention a hearty breakfast for all the feathered members of M.A.R.S., and actually some left over for me.

Sometimes we all have a tendency to look to quickly, and judge to harshly, without getting the full story.

Exactly what I did when first viewing this picture.

The subject matter jumped off the page, and I assumed the worst. Feathers of Cockatoos being used for fashion shoes, which of course was not the case at all. The designer used turkey and chicken feathers dyed in bright colors for high fashion shoe embellishment.

Although this was an eye catcher of an advertisement, I doubt if any of us will be slaves to this kind of fashion statement. Always remember to get the facts straight before jumping to the wrong conclusions.

We here at M.A.R.S. had the joy of boarding a truly amazing bird this year.

To experience life with a larger than life bird, one must understand that the vocals of that bird might actually match the size of that bird.

Such was the case with Stella, a big, beautiful, vibrant blue Hyacinth Macaw with a personality to fall in love with and a voice as big as the sea.

So when I say, “Do you hear what I hear”, that would be Stella.

Wishing all a very vibrant and blue (that would be in color only) Holiday Season from all here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

As any rescue continues to grow at the rate M.A.R.S., a Florida based exotic bird sanctuary is, we are constantly in need of more food and cages. Please if you have a cage in decent shape contact us.
