Donations needed.

M.A.R.S. is simply putting it out there to all who follow our organization, we are in need of donations.  Our flock of adoptable and permanent avian residents is continuing to grow. The feed and supplies needed, and the day to day operation of  our rescue is going up and up. Please donate if you can via Paypal, Network for good, Guidestar, and right here on our website www.marsparrots.org/donations. Thank-you to all who continue to support our cause.

Visit us when in the area. Plan on spending some time with the avians of  M.A.R.S.. Adopt a bird ( read our no-fault adoption policy) or simply sponsor one in need of special care.

Birds eye view

Never let it be said that the saying “a birds eye view” couldn’t be taken literally. Especially when it comes to the parrots that reside here at the rescue. Take Saturday at M.A.R.S.. There was an obvious contest between Angel and Emily our resident female umbrella cockatoos and our very sweet male umbrella cockatoo Warf. Who could make it to the top of the tree first was anyone’s guess. Who would hold the top of the tree another story. Pictures tell all, Warf was hands down the winner. Emily, took to the lower branches. And Angel settled for the top of the umbrella for her new view of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary visitors area. Saturday was once again a great day here at M.A.R.S.IMG 2426 IMG 2430

Our very own Jakers, back again

Jakers, our very own amazing umbrella cockatoo is back at M.A.R.S. once again. This is the third time this way to intelligent cockatoo has managed to get adopted and then returned. He is a healthy boy, with the smarts of an African Grey. What Jake wants he figures out how to get, much to the chagrin of his adoptive parents. Perhaps he would do well in an aviary situation. I suppose that here at our Florida based parrot rescue that will be our next best option for Jake. Amazing Cockatoo our very own Clyde

Through out the years I have met many amazing cockatoos, however none can compare with a little Citron named Clyde. His life force has a never ending power supply. He has feathered friends that care for him and watch over him. He has the ability to come through circumstances that could easily drain the life force from a much healthier and larger bird. Yes, he truly is an amazing little guy our Clyde

Originally Clyde came to us in such a state, that I did not believe he would survive the week. He was in a severe state of depression, and very weekend physically. Well, he showed us all what a change of environment, lots of love and good food, sunshine and fresh air, and lots of baths can do to change a birds prospective on life.

Clyde has faced a new challenge. Recently he had to have his wing removed. Now understand he was never much of a flyer , nor did he demand to be one. He did however do the most amazing WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! with both wings up at the same time. His way of saying he was very happy with one thing or another.

He is fighting to deal with this loss. He has good days and bad ones. He will always try his best to act normally, but as you can imagine, he knows he is missing that wing. The other day I gave out large tortilla chips, Clyde took it and placed it where his wing used to be and looked at me with a look only Clyde could muster. A bit impish a bit sad, but if you can believe this with humor. He followed the action with a big WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!. Only our Clyde, He is truly one of a kind. Live long Clyde. We all would miss you way to much, and so would all your feathered friends, especially Mr. Stubbs and Big Bird.
